Upland Game Bird Season
Oak Ridge Game Preserve is located in the rolling
hills of Nelson County shadowed by the Blue Ridge Mountains. The
pastoral setting of this 4800-acre Estate provides the perfect backdrop
for game bird hunting. The Estate is currently being restored to
its former glory of the early 1900's when Thomas Fortune
Ryan owned the Estate. Mr. Ryan established a game preserve of his
own in 1910. As part of the restoration of Oak Ridge, we are recreating
the preserve for public use.
Oak Ridge offers quality game bird hunts from October
through April. Hunts include quail, chukar and pheasant. You may
have the option of an unguided or guided hunt. Half-day (3 hours)
and full-day (6 hours) hunts are offered. Lunch is available
upon request, with advance notice, for one-day hunts. Hunts
are by appointment only with one-week advance notice and a 50% deposit. Discounted Membership Packages are available.
Hunters are responsible for providing personal gear to include guns
and current hunting license.
We currently operate five game fields. Three fields
have Native Warm Season Grass that consist of Indian and Alamo Switch
Grass with short and tall blue stems. Two fields contain Broom Sage
and native growth. All fields offer extensive coverage for
game birds.
Game bird hunting is a family tradition around the
world. Oak Ridge Game Preserve encourages family hunts to allow
youth exposure to gun safety practices. Children or grandchildren
can accompany you on your full or half-day hunt at no additional
charge.

Full Day Hunt
Includes 20 quail or 15 chukar or 10 pheasant

Guided -$350.00 (guide and dogs)
***A discount of 10% will apply for all hunts with three or more hunters (not applicable to additional bird purchases).
***Additional charge of $6.00/quail, $9.00/chukar,
and 17.00/pheasant over the limit on half and full day hunts.
